Intent:
This match is designed for the beginning to intermediate precision rifle shooter using an off-the shelf rifle capable of ~1.5moa with factory match ammunition. Optics are based on Division but are meant to allow entry level options to compete. Stages are meant to be completed using a rifle, bipod and 1 positional bag. Stages are intended to be “practical” in nature and consist of a combination of stressors to improve the shooters ability to utilize their equipment in a controlled and safe environment. Some movement may be necessary but stages typically do not involve any “run and gun” type movement. Course of fire are written to accommodate both small frame and large frame cartridges and have a balance of time, shooting positions, target sizes and distances.
Divisions:
1) Open Division: Barrel length of 20.1″ or longer, optic 20x or greater, any caliber in addition to 5.56/.223 or 7.62/.308. 20 round magazine capacity
2) Tactical Heavy Division: Barrel length of 20.1″ or shorter, optic 20x or under, 20 round magazine capacity limit. 5.56 /.223 or 7.62/.308 ONLY
3) Tactical Light Division: Barrel is less than 18.1″ in length, optics of 10x or less, 20 round magazine capacity. 5.56/.223 ONLY
4) Open Light Division: Any barrel length, Optic 10x or under, 20 round magazine capacity limit, any small frame AR-15 Cartridge besides .223/5.56
Targets:
100-600 yards
A mix of reactive and static
Reactive targets – balance large cartridges to small cartridges. E.G. targets hung on single strap with a lot of movement.
Static targets- 2-4 moa in size. Anything 2moa and smaller will be difficult for .223 with 4mph wind. Distances should be proportionate to target size and should not exceed 700 yards for .223 rem use.
Scoring:
Time + penalties
Par time- typically 90 seconds with 8-10 hits needed to complete a stage.
Typically Penalties are 30 second per target not engaged or per procedural. This can be altered to fit a particular stage E.G. 5 second penalty per shot missed.
Shooters score is raw time plus penalties accrued, final score is accumulation of final stage times.
Bonuses can be used to take time off of a competitors raw time but should be stage specific and fair.
Strings can be used if not to exceed the total par time of 90 seconds E.G. 5 strings with a max of 15sec per string (equals 75 seconds of shooting time max)
Last shot fired may not exceed .30 to count for time.
Starting position:
Default starting position:
Standing, mag in, bolt locked back, Bag in hand, bipod can be up or down depending on stage.
Other starting positions can be used but are stage dependent
Match Description
Round Count – 80 minimum 160 maximum steel from 200-600 yards.
You may “down load” a 30 round magazine to 20 rounds. However be mindful that firing more than 20 rounds will result in a stage DQ
Gear recommendations:
• All calibers of AR variants are allowed, subject to the same rules as the Precision Rifle Match. No steel core, velocity under 3200 fps.
• Shooters should have a bipod and rear/support bag (like an AG gamechanger or similar)
• This is designed to be a one bag only match.
• Slings are not required but can be used.
• An optic that is a minimum of 6 power, 8-10 being the minimum ideal. Because this match has a precision element to it, we recommend an optic with MOA or Milliradian reticles versus a BDC (Ballistic Drop Compensator) reticle. The BDC reticle will work, and again, if your goal is to learn how to run your current gear better, then by all means feel free to go that direction.
The match will consist of 8 stages with a 20 round maximum per stage so 160 rounds is recommended. Shooters should have a minimum of 3 magazines and ability to carry magazines on the body to the shooting area.
The match will emphasize safety and rifle manipulation. Shooters will need to be verbal and clear with the ROs anytime movement is involved. Procedures are covered in the safety brief and to shoot the match you must be at the briefing. Let me be clear, unsafe practices have zero tolerance.
Eye and ear protection is mandatory. Ancillary gear such as tripods, plates for the rail, etc. can be used as dictated by the stage description but will not be a big part of the match.
